| x1292Jonathan Clasen is entering his 10th year of serving as the compliance officer and his 15th year of serving HIU Athletics. He began his Royal journey as a student-athlete with the Men’s Basketball program at Pacific Christian College (now Hope) in the Fall of 1995, eventually graduating in 2006 with a degree in Human Development. He then earned a master’s degree from Concordia University Irvine in Coaching and Athletic Administration in the Spring of 2011.
Clasen was recently promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in Fall 2020, currently serving as Compliance Administrator and Facility & Event Manager for the department.
Clasen began his compliance journey in 2013-14, processing athletic eligibility for 166 athletes in 11 sports. The HIU student-athlete population has grown to over 420 athletes competing in 24 sports (including JV teams) offered at Hope for the 2023-24 school year.
Clasen monitors the scheduling of home athletic events and manages the Darling Pavilion's weekly/daily/hourly scheduling. Clasen also manages 30 student workers that work as Event Staff at all the home athletic events. Clasen managed over 100 home athletic events (many doubleheader events) last school year (2022-23) and scheduled Event Staff for each event.
Clasen served 12 seasons on the coaching staff with the Men’s Basketball program for Hope International from 2008-20. In August of 2017, Clasen was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the program.
Clasen played a major role in the emergent success of the Royals Men’s Basketball program since he started as a volunteer assistant coach in 2008-09. The program experienced its pinnacle (so far) in the 2014-15 season when the team went 32-3 and was awarded the #1 overall seed in the NAIA National Tournament. That team was the GSAC Regular Season Champions, the GSAC Conference Tournament Champions, and won its way to the Fab Four of the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, MO. During that storied 2014-15 season, Clasen stepped in and led the program for the first 9 games of the season while Coach Czech attended to family matters.
Clasen served the HIU men’s basketball program as what most high-level programs identify as the Director of Basketball Operations. Clasen planned and organized all team travel and meal itineraries for the program. Clasen also specialized in the preseason and offseason strength and conditioning program and created over half of the scouting reports during his coaching tenure.
Jonathan and his wife Bitsy reside in La Palma, CA, and recently celebrated their 20th anniversary in the summer of 2023.
